Downloading and installing updates using AccountRight
Being provided with software updates is one of the many benefits of having a support subscription.
To simplify the update process, AccountRight incorporates Software Manager - a web-based tool that notifies you when your software has been updated, and enables you to install the update from the web.
Notes:

If the computer running AccountRight does not have an internet connection, you can download updates on another computer via my.MYOB. See No internet connection for more information.

If you are unable to use the Software Manager to download or install AccountRight updates, software updates can also be downloaded from my.MYOB. For more information see this support note.

Your AccountRight software must be "registered for updates" to enable updates to be downloaded using the Software Manager. See To register for updates below.
Before you begin

An internet connection is required to complete this process. If the computer running AccountRight does not have an internet connection, you can download updates on another computer via my.MYOB. See No internet connection for more information.

If your computer only allows users with administrator privileges to install programs, log in to Windows as administrator.
To register for updates
Registering for updates allows AccountRight to work with the Software Manager to allow updates to be downloaded. Once you have registered for software updates, Software Manager enables you to automatically receive update alerts so that you can install updates as soon as they’re available.
You need your 12-digit AccountRight serial number to register for updates. This serial number was included on your installation CD when you purchased your software, or included in your confirmation email if you downloaded your software. You can also find your serial number in the Company Information window of your company file (go to the Setup menu and choose Company Information).
To register for updates:
- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Access the Register for Update Alerts window. You can do this either from:
- The Windows Start button
If using AccountRight 2011 or later:
Start > All Programs > MYOB > your AccountRight folder > Register for Updates
If using an earlier AccountRight version:
Start > All Programs > your AccountRight folder > MYOB Tools > Register for Updates.
- The AccountRight Help menu > Updates > Register for updates.
- Enter your 12-digit AccountRight serial number.
- Click Register for Updates.
- Repeat this procedure on each computer that you run AccountRight on.
Installing an update from a Software Manager alert
If a software update alert appears, click Install Now to install the available update.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the update.
Manually checking for software updates

Open Software Manager to display any available updates. You can do this either from:
- The Windows Start button
- If using AccountRight 2011 or later:
Start > All Programs > MYOB > your AccountRight folder > Check for MYOB Updates.
If using an earlier AccountRight version:
Start > All Programs > your AccountRight folder > MYOB Tools > Check for MYOB Updates.
- The AccountRight Help menu > Updates > Check for updates.

If an update is available (as shown in the example above), select the update and click either:
- Install to install the update immediately. Note: You must close your AccountRight software if you choose this option.
- Download Only to download the update to a specified location to be installed later.
To install the update immediately

Leaving Software Manager open, save all open files and close all other programs (including AccountRight).
- Select the update file and click Install. The installation wizard starts.

Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

When installation is complete, click Finish.
- Repeat the installation on each computer that you use the software on. (Not applicable if you are running AccountRight Enterprise on Windows Server.)
To download the update and install it later
Download the update file

If it is not already running, open Software Manager. You can do this either from:
- The Windows Start button
If using AccountRight 2011 or later:
Start > All Programs > MYOB > your AccountRight folder > Check for MYOB Updates.
If using an earlier AccountRight version:
Start > All Programs > your AccountRight folder > MYOB Tools > Check for MYOB Updates.
- The AccountRight Help menu > Updates > Check for updates.
- The Windows Start button

Select the update file and click Download Only.
- Select a location to save the update file and click OK.

Click Finish.
Note: If using Firefox as your default web browser and depending on its preference settings, you may not be given the opportunity to specify where to save the downloaded file. By default, Firefox will save downloaded files in C:\My Documents\Downloads. To change this preference setting, open Firefox and go to Tools > Options > General and select the option Always ask me where to save files.
Install the update file

Save all open files and close all programs (including AccountRight).
- Locate the downloaded update file.
- Double-click the file. The installation wizard starts.
- Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
- When installation is complete, click Finish.
- Install this update on each computer you use AccountRight on. (Not applicable if you are running AccountRight Enterprise on Windows Server). You can:
- Reuse the update file. Copy the update file to a portable media device (such as a USB stick) and move it to each computer that you use AccountRight on. Repeat from step 5 on each computer.
- Download the update on each computer. Repeat from step 1 on each computer.
Note: You do not need to retain the downloaded update file after you have installed the update on all your computers.
No intenet connection
If you are running AccountRight on a computer which doesn't have an internet connection, you can download the update on a computer which does have an internet connection, then use the downloaded file on the computer running AccountRight.
To do this:
- On the computer which has internet access, go to http://www.my.myob.com.au
- Log in to my.MYOB using your Email address and Password.
- Click Download Upgrade.
- Select the applicable product.
- Click the upgrade file to be downloaded.
- Save the file to your desktop.
- Copy the downloaded file to an external storage device, such as a USB stick.
- On the computer running AccountRight, copy the downloaded file from the external storage device to the desktop.
- Double-click the file on the desktop to install the update.
